Little Flock
Div. III, Honorable Mention, Watercolor/Acrylic
"Little Flock" was inspired by my love of travel. I love traveling to and learning about the unique places and people around the world. In each new place, the environment and culture has created a special way of life for the local peoples and fueled the development of a unique world view. A huge benefit of traveling is the opportunity to learn from numerous cultures and about the various world views that fill our amazing world. When I first saw the reference picture that ended up using for "Little Flock" I was struck by the stark, snowy landscape and the unique colors used to mark this flock of sheep. The photo evoked such curiosity in me, that I knew I just had to paint it.
With use of dark shadows and colorful details, I worked to bring life to this quite scene from the Peak District in the UK. I love the unique way watercolor can be used to achieve texture to a landscape, even one that it mostly white.
