Superstition Mountains, Arizona
Div. V-E, Honorable Mention, Oil/Acrylic
The majestic Superstition Mountains dominate the scene. Their jagged peaks are bathed in the afternoon sun, The sky and clouds are captured in loose, swirling brushstrokes. Prickly pear cacti stand sentinel-like, their flat pads a cool green against the warm earth tones. Saguaro cacti, their arms reaching skyward, are captured in a mosaic of brushstrokes. The early evening time is indicated by the sun shining between the arms of the Saguaro. This Impressionist-style painting uses the ruggedness of the desert to create a sense of mystery and intrigue. Two coats of high gloss varnish was applied after 2 days of drying.
