Lynx - Resting in Snow
This painting used watercolor, pen and ink, ink washes and pastel. I attempted to capture the Lynx as a lone and tenacious predator that is resting in a cold and wintry scene. The cat was painted with ten separate washes creating a colorful and complex coat of multiple colors. My focus was on his face. Although at first glance he looks like a peaceful house cat, but as you study the picture, you realize the intense look and remember this is a dangerous and fierce predator about to pounce and bring down prey at a moment's notice. The setting is a quiet and peaceful background giving him time to rest and prepare for the next adventure. I used soft white pastel to highlight snowbanks.
