Leader of the Pack

This painting is a mixed media using watercolor washes, pen and ink and pastels. I was inspired by the youthful innocence of a small elephant taking a lead position among the larger and more mature elephants. The mother is leading out with her trunk encouraging her young calf as he is charging ahead. I used a combination of white pastel and watercolors to bring contrast in values to have the elephants stand out and emphasize their large frames. against the background setting.
